As the title suggests, this is a full-on endorsement for the purchase of an MD Notebook. If you don't want to read on, this is my main endorsement for why you won't regret buying: The threaded binding is beautifully efficient at giving you a full range (180 degree) access to both pages when opened.
I am not a designated authority on whether the note-taking is making a comeback or not. However, my appreciation for the physical act of pen to paper has only gotten stronger as I've gotten older. If you are like me, and still choose to pick up the pen, let me tell you the place best I've found to put it to work.
Selling Points
For me, it’s the access to a 180 degree flat angle for instant two page access right out the box. I mentioned it above, and will remain resolute that it’s the biggest upside to the product. For those that understand the 1,000 paperback book problem where you only really enjoy the book for the 20% of it you spend in the middle.. you get it. Rather, why waste your time with traditional notebooks when the MD Notebook gives you this fresh out of the box?
The design is simple, and non-logo focused. It really speaks to the blank canvas appeal that I think most of us are in search for when buying a proper notebook. The soft original writing paper "MD paper" that is resistant to bleeding. This is super important if you are like me.. a messy writer. My outside pinky touches the page at all times, and I press firmly into the page. This means, I am incredibly prone to smearing my words. This combined with my terrible handwriting is a natural disaster waiting to happen. So, the peace of mind that this notebook gives me while in use is worth every penny. I can scribble to eternity, and when I look back and can’t read what I wrote, I can only blame myself [not the pages inability to hold ledger]
I love the colorful tassel that is easy to find, and use to hold my place. It’s a small thing, but it’s a playful length that is actually a few inches longer than the book itself. This means, it overhangs on both sides. This gives a nuanced colorful spike to the otherwise plain notebook when observing it at an angle at a coffee shop table or on your book shelf.
The notebook can be purchased four sizes: A6 (pocket edition size), B6 Slim (paperback size), A5 (hardback size) and A4 Variant (magazine size). Personally, I use the A5. This pairs with my kindle, and is not a strain on a single hand when I am carrying them. I find I am able to write around 10 words per line, and 15 lines per page. This doesn’t feel small to me, and naturally looks like a complete set of paragraphs when it’s all said and done.
I would caution throwing this in your backpack in a main compartment. The flexible spine will be prone to opening up within the compartment if jostled around, and could damage / wrinkle pages. It’s best to store this in a lined smaller pocket of a bad that will restrict the item from moving around too much. I usually stash within the laptop sleeve of my bag, and haven’t had any damage to date.
The main criticism I would offer this notebook is thinness of the pages can cause a see-through effect. It’s a very small issue, but if you are staring at the page long enough, you will find yourself looking beyond the words on the page. It’s an extremely small thing, but this review is about a notebook so nitpicking is part of the deal.
In terms of accessibility, and price: I purchased an individual notebook at my local bookstore for $12.99, and found that it is listed on Amazon for $10. This is not necessarily a cheap item. However, I abide by the $ a day principle for everyday items. Essentially asking myself, would I rent this item for $03c [$12/365 days a year] to use this item everyday? The short answer: absolutely.
You might be wondering? Why isn’t he comparing this product to others?
I am not being paid to review, nor am I getting items shipped to me to review. These are items I own and have value in. For now, these are just justifications why I think this item is worth purchasing. If you want the comparison videos, go to YouTube. I am here to give a strong endorsement of a single product, if you need more, continue your research however you see fit.
